Research objectives

To carry out comprehensive clinical, genetic, neurophysiologic and skin biopsy investigations in painful neuropathy and cancer pain patients in order to stratify those at higher risk, and to characterise the responsiveness of patients to drugs.

To assess the pathogenic potential of voltage-gated sodium channel gene mutations found in patients and to identify sodium channel interacting proteins.

To translate clinical and basic science academic research into industrial activities committed to high-throughput screening of analgesic compounds, development and characterisation of CRISPR-Cas mouse models and development of a new mouse model of neuropathic chronic itch and investigation for therapeutic approach.
