Maastricht University (UM) is the most international university in the Netherlands, with almost 45% of our students and more than 30% of teaching staff coming from abroad.
High-quality researchers have attracted international attention by taking the lead in several large European research projects. The medical faculty is combined with the University Hospital in the Maastricht University Medical Centre (MUMC). The MUMC serves as secondary and tertiary referral centre for neuropathies and has a large diabetes care department.
UM serves as tertiary referral centre for acquired and genetic peripheral neuropathies, and has a longstanding collaboration with Dutch and international centres on painful peripheral neuropathies. UM was the leading organization of the PeriNomS study, focused on outcome measures in peripheral neuropathies, in which 25 international centres participated, and was responsible for training of all participating partners in this and other international trials.
